ICC Women’s Player of the Month for November 2023 revealed
In November 2023, a young spin bowler from Bangladesh became victorious as the ICC Women’s Player of the Month.
Nahida Akter, a slow left-arm spinner from Bangladesh, has been named the November ICC Women’s Player of the Month. She was the first female athlete from Bangladesh to ever win the trophy.
Akter was ecstatic to collect the monthly honour after defeating Pakistani spinner Sadia Iqbal and fellow countryman Fargana Hoque.
Akter remarked, “This is a moment to treasure.”
“It means a lot to be acknowledged by this esteemed group of cricket experts, and being named the ICC Women Player of the Month winner will greatly inspire and motivate me.
We’ve played some incredible cricket in the past few months, and I’m thrilled to have had a part in the team’s victories. I have to express my gratitude to my captain, coaches, and teammates for their unwavering faith in me, which has enabled me to perform well under duress and play my natural game against elite opponents.
With her seven ODI wickets at an average of 14.14, Akter won the Player of the Series award and helped Bangladesh secure a crucial series victory in November.
The sluggish left-arm spinner didn’t give up even after Bangladesh was dismissed for just 81 runs in the opening game. Before Pakistan could eventually surpass the low total, she struck three times.
She concluded with a score of 1/43 in the second ODI, shattering the crucial barrier separating Diana Baig and Najiha Alvi. After Bangladesh eventually levelled the score, Nahida was assigned to bowl the Super Over. The 23-year-old took two wickets while conceding only seven runs. The hitters then even the series and chased down the score to complete the job.
She took 3/26 in the last game and helped Pakistan to 166/9. The Bangladeshi batsmen eventually brought this total in the 47th over.
The outstanding young player has already surpassed all other Bangladeshi wicket-takers in T20Is and is currently third in ODIs.
