Shubman Gill of India is gaining ground on Pakistan captain Babar Azam, and his lead over him in the MRF Tyres ODI Batting Rankings is continuing to shrink.

The first two games of India’s ODI series against Australia have been played by Gill, who has been in outstanding form. During the first two games, Gill has scored a total of 178 runs for the series.

The right-handed batter set a new career-high rating on the revised list for ODI batters after scoring a quickfire 74 in the series’ opening game in Mohali and following that up by compiling his sixth career ODI century in Indore.

Just 10 rating points separate Gill from Babar as of right now, with the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup set to begin on October 5.

Men’s ODI Batting Rankings

Babar will enter the tournament with the top rating this year because Gill will miss India’s final game of their series against Australia and Pakistan won’t play an official ODI until their World Cup opener.

Even though Babar and Gill are far ahead of the competition, the race for first place in the batter rankings will remain competitive throughout the World Cup’s six weeks.

Despite the fact that much of his team’s ODI series against England was impacted by rain, Ireland’s young gun Harry Tector jumps to fourth place and a new career-high rating. South Africa’s powerhouse Rassie van der Dussen (743 rating points) is third on the batter rankings and more than 100 points behind the top two.

Following strong performances against Australia, India’s Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul both saw increases in the rankings this week. Meanwhile, Mohammed Siraj, another member of the Indian team, holds a slim lead atop the list for ODI bowlers.

Despite not playing in the ODI series against Australia, Siraj rose to the top of the rankings because to his six-wicket haul in the Asia Cup final against Sri Lanka earlier this month. He now leads Australia seamer Josh Hazlewood by 11 points.
