A last-minute change has been made to India’s Asia Cup team before of the championship game on September 17th.

Axar Patel has been replaced by Washington Sundar ahead of Sunday’s Asia Cup Final matchup against Sri Lanka. Sundar has connected with the team since his arrival in Colombo.

During India’s final Super Four match against Bangladesh on September 15, Axar Patel suffered a left quadriceps strain and would be sidelined for the decisive final.

Axar scored 42 runs from 34 balls during the match against the Tigers, including three fours and two sixes. Despite taking several knocks throughout the innings, the southpaw continued to fight to keep India in the game.

In the end, Bangladesh’s bowlers superbly turned the tide and triumphed by six runs to cap off a successful Asia Cup run.

Sundar, Axar’s replacement, has taken 16 wickets in as many ODIs at an average of 27.18 and a close to five-percent economy. He has demonstrated his bat skills as well, scoring 233 runs in nine innings, including a fifty against New Zealand.

The off-spinner will likely go to the Asian Games camp following the conclusion of the final because he is a member of India’s Asian Games team.
