Prior to the crucial match for the Asia Cup championship versus India on September 17, Sri Lanka has lost a key player.

Maheesh Theekshana, an off-spinner for Sri Lanka, won’t be able to play in the Asia Cup championship match against India. During their Super Four match against Pakistan, he suffered a right hamstring strain.

A scan revealed a muscular damage, which was confirmed.

As a replacement, Sahan Arachchige has been added by the selectors. Two ODIs were played by Arachchige. He bowls off-breaks and bats in the middle of the order.

The departure of Theekshana is a serious setback for the tournament hosts. He was a crucial player for Sri Lanka, taking eight wickets in five games for an average of 29.12.

As soon as he gets back to the High Performance Centre, he will start the recovery process.
