Australia took the top spot in the MRF Tyres ICC Men’s ODI Team Rankings after defeating South Africa in the second one-day international in Bloemfontein.

Australia recaptured the top rank in the Men’s ODI Team Rankings after a victory against South Africa in the second match after Pakistan had knocked them out a few days earlier.

After winning a thriller in the first match in Bloemfontein, Australia won the second ODI by 123 runs.

Australia was given the opportunity to bat first, and David Warner and Travis Head got off to a fast start. In a flash, Head would register a half-century, and Warner would reach his 20th ODI century as Australia established a strong base. Marnus Labuschagne, who led Australia to victory in the opening ODI, extended his outstanding performance with a second century. Australia was able to record a massive total of 392/8 in their 50 overs thanks to this.

Despite notable contributions from Quinton de Kock and Heinrich Klaasen, South Africa made a quick start but was unable to maintain it. Australia’s top bowler, Adam Zampa, finished with 4/48 as South Africa was dismissed for 269 runs.

Australia now has 121 points in the Men’s ODI Team Rankings thanks to their victory. They now have an advantage of one over Pakistan, who are at 120.

Australia has continued to perform effectively in the shorter overs format while remaining the undisputed ODI champions.

They lost a hard-fought series against Sri Lanka away from home in the 2022 season. After arriving to the Australian continent, their troubles persisted when, despite winning the series, they were humiliated by Zimbabwe in a dead rubber match. However, the Kangaroos immediately after that humiliated regional rivals New Zealand 3-0 at home.

They defeated England 3-0 at home in November 2022. Then, in March 2023, they defeated India in India. After defeating South Africa in Bloemfontein, they now lead the five-match series 2-0.

India follows closely behind the top two teams, who are evenly matched. The formulas and rankings might alter even more when a number of ODI matches approach.
