Toss Pakistan chose to bat vs Afghanistan

As has been the case throughout this series, Pakistan won the toss and chose to bat first against Afghanistan as the teams travelled to Colombo for the third and final ODI.

Four changes were made to the team that won the second ODI as Pakistan decided to rest some of their important players given that they had already won the series 2-0 and that their first Asia Cup match was only four days away. Haris Rauf, Iftikhar Ahmed, Naseem Shah, and Usama Mir were all excluded. Mohammad Nawaz, Saud Shakeel, Faheem Ashraf, and Mohammad Wasim all entered.

According to Babar Azam, the first ten overs would be critical and the surface appeared to be a little bit dry. He added that he anticipated a high-scoring contest.

Afghanistan also made two changes, replacing Ikram Alikhil and Abdul Rahman with Gulbadin Naib and Fareed Ahmad. Azmatullah Omarzai, who has a side strain, has been replaced in the team for the third ODI earlier in the day by Naib.

After dominating the first ODI, in which they defeated Afghanistan for just 59 runs, Pakistan was given a considerably tougher test in the second match. Afghanistan amassed 300 for 5 thanks to Rahmanullah Gurbaz’s run-a-ball 151, but Naseem maintained his composure in the chase to lead his team across the finish line with the game’s penultimate ball.

Colombo is anticipated to be humid, but rain is not likely to prevent the game from continuing. A victory here is crucial because it will propel Pakistan to the top of the ODI rankings.
