Pakistan’s pacers share 8 wickets between them in the opening ODI of the three-match series, Afghanistan out for 59.

तीन मैचों की सीरीज के शुरुआती वनडे में पाकिस्तान के तेज गेंदबाजों ने 8 विकेट लिए, अफगानिस्तान 59 रन पर आउट।

In Pakistan’s first ODI away from home in 2023, Haris Rauf scored a career-high haul, and Shaheen Shah Afridi and Naseem Shah also played at their absolute best.

In their first batting innings, Pakistan had trouble building momentum and needed a late ninth-wicket stand to help them beyond 200 runs against a potent Afghanistan bowling attack.

However, Pakistan was on track to win within the first 10 overs with to the quick bowlers. In the third over, Ibrahim Zadran and Rahmat Shah were removed by Shaheen off consecutive deliveries, while Hashmatullah Shahidi was returned by Naseem in the following over.

With three batters leaving for ducks and the score reading 8/3, Afghanistan’s hopes began to fade. In his first over, Haris Rauf brought a wicket to the gathering. In the fourteenth over, he sent back Rahmanullah Gurbaz, who was determined to cause another collapse.

Afghanistan was reduced to 59 runs from 35/5, their second-lowest score in ODIs, as Rauf concluded with a career-high 5/18.  In an ODI, Pakistan has bowled out the opposition four times in under 20 overs.

Additionally, in men’s ODIs, this was the lowest total ever scored by a team against Pakistan.

Babar Azam remarked after the match, “We just wanted to bowl as many dot balls as possible and hit hard length in the powerplay.” He also praised Rauf’s spell as “game-changing.”

With the victory, Pakistan has had a solid start to a busy season, but more importantly, with the World Cup quickly approaching, their pace attack is looking well.

Pakistan’s pacers have excelled in ODIs with the ball since 2021. With 43 wickets in 21 games at an average of 24.02, Rauf is in the lead. The other players’ statistics are just as amazing even if they haven’t played as many ODIs as Rauf.

Mohammad Wasim, who didn’t play on Tuesday, has 24 wickets in 14 games while Shaheen has 27 wickets in 15 ODIs. Naseem has played in just nine ODIs, but he already has two five-wicket hauls and a fantastic 14.9 ODI average.

With the Asia Cup and World Cup coming up in the next two months, the bowling attack will be fired up after the outstanding performance in the first ODI.
